Design Note #20
This user-friendly, multimedia audio and video control console marries analog video, digital video and analog audio circuitry into a single, low-cost control unit.
OTEC selected the AMD 80186ER as the ideal microprocessor for this demanding, low-cost audio and video application. The AMD Microprocessor brings all the industry standard power of an x86 computer in a low-cost efficient single chip device. With on-board SRAM, the 80186ER provides an ideal small-model microprocessor solution.
Analog multiplexing circuitry provide the switching of multiple RS170 video input channels. Both composite and component video inputs are supported on four separately switched channels.
Native control of VISCA-compatible cameras permits this multi-media board to select camera zoom, focus, f-stop, shutter speed, color balance, output level, pan, and tilt. Power management features are available as part of the industry-standard VISCA protocol.
Analog multiplexing circuitry provide the switching of multiple analog audio input channels. Both stereo microphone and line input channels are supported on four separately switched channels.
Video decoding and encoding functions are provided to support image storage applications. YUV digital video permits a universal interface between the multimedia controller and third party video products.
